What it is
ONE's Mob Psycho 100 ran on Shogakukan's web manga site Ura Sunday from 2012 to 2017 and was collected in 16 volumes. Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob, is an awkward eighth-grader who is one of the most powerful psychics alive. He does not want to be special. He wants to make friends, get stronger in the ordinary way and talk to the girl he likes. He works part-time for Arataka Reigen, a self-proclaimed spirit medium who is a fraud.
How it works
Mob suppresses his emotions because he fears what his power could do. A counter on the page tracks his feelings as they build towards 100 per cent, and when it reaches 100 something explodes. The fights against spirits, rival psychics and a psychic cult are spectacular, but each is really about Mob's emotional state, and the series keeps asking whether power makes anyone worth more than anyone else.
Reigen
Reigen is the series' surprise. He lies to his clients and exploits Mob's power, yet he also gives the boy the only sound advice he receives: that his power is just one trait among many, and that being a good person matters more. Their relationship is the emotional core of the story.
Why it matters
It proved that ONE's success with One-Punch Man was not a fluke, and it is drawn in his own deliberately rough style, rather than redrawn by another artist. The anime by Studio Bones (2016–2022), celebrated for its hand-drawn animation, brought it a large international audience.
The title by its numbers
Every letter here carries a digit; together they make 44, which folds down to 8. The weight sits in “Psycho”, which carries 32 on its own and reduces to 5.
Eight is visionary & achiever — money, authority, and the machinery of ambition. The reference files it as a reckoning. Read that way, what the entry is really recording is the 8's concern with power, money, and who is really in charge.
The vowels alone reduce to 3, the consonants to 5. Expression underneath, change on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
Counted another way the answer changes. 総画 strokes is 13, a 4, volumes is 16, a 7, years serialised is 6 and debut year is 2012, a 5. The title says 8; the subject says otherwise, and the subject is the harder evidence.
The 8 measures what is countable and calls the rest noise. Several entries record industries that optimised themselves into exhaustion. What the 8 still asks is that you follow the money before you judge the decision. The other entries that reduce to 8 are collected on The Ledger.
