7The Inquiry · 70岩明 均
Born 1960
The creator of Parasyte and Historie, known for a plain, clean style that makes his horror and violence all the more shocking.

Career
Hitoshi Iwaaki was born in Tokyo in 1960. He worked as an assistant to Kazuo Kamimura before making his own debut in Kodansha's magazines in the mid-1980s. Parasyte began in 1988 and made his name.
The work
After Parasyte (1988–1995), he wrote historical works, culminating in Historie, which began in Afternoon in 2003. It follows Eumenes of Cardia, who became secretary to Alexander the Great, and won the Manga Taishō in 2010. Its publication has been slow, reflecting Iwaaki's careful pace.
The style
Iwaaki's line is spare and his characters' faces calm, even in extreme scenes. He is interested in cold, rational minds and in how violence looks to someone who does not share human morality. His storytelling is restrained, and he lets moral questions remain open.
Why he matters
Parasyte is one of the classics of seinen horror, and Historie is one of the most praised historical manga. His career shows how a manga artist can move from genre fiction to history without changing his essential concerns.
The name by its numbers
The arithmetic is unremarkable and worth doing anyway: 70 across 2 words, reducing to 7. The weight sits in “Hitoshi”, which carries 43 on its own and reduces to 7.
What the 7 brings is inquiry. The reference files it as an open question. Whatever else this entry is doing, it is doing it with the 7's pull toward the hidden and the unresolved.
Heart's Desire 8, Personality 8: the subject wants exactly what it appears to want, which is power — an unusually undivided reading.
人格 core is 15, a 6, 総格 total is 23, a 5 and born is 1960, a 7. That the 7 turns up in born as well as in the letters is the sort of coincidence this reference collects rather than explains.
The 7 asks you to sit with the part that was never explained. The 7 mistakes withholding for depth. Some works filed here are obscure because they are unfinished, not because they are deep. The other entries that reduce to 7 are collected on The Inquiry.
