7A 7 by its title: analyst & seeker, and therefore the inquiry.
What it is
Fist of the North Star, written by Buronson and drawn by Tetsuo Hara, ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1983 to 1988 and was collected in 27 volumes. After a nuclear war has turned the world into a desert, the strong rule the weak through gangs and warlords. Kenshirō, the successor to the assassination art of Hokuto Shinken, wanders the wasteland with seven scars on his chest arranged like the Big Dipper.
How it works
Hokuto Shinken kills by striking the body's hidden pressure points, so that an opponent's body bursts apart moments later. Kenshirō's line to a dying enemy, "You are already dead", became one of the most quoted in manga. The world, of leather-clad raiders and ruined cities, owes a clear debt to the film Mad Max 2, and Kenshirō's fighting style to Bruce Lee.
The tragedy
Behind the violence is a story of brothers and loss. Kenshirō's adoptive elder brothers, above all Raoh, the would-be conqueror, are both his enemies and the men he respects most. Many villains are given a past that explains them, and many of the most remembered scenes are deaths. Hara's heavily muscled, realistic figures gave the grief a weight that matched the fights.
Why it matters
It was one of the defining hits of Jump in the 1980s, and its 1984 anime and countless games spread it worldwide. Its mixture of extreme violence, martial-arts systems and melodrama shaped the battle manga that followed, and the post-apocalyptic wasteland it popularised remains a familiar setting.
The title by its numbers
Every letter here carries a digit; together they make 88, which folds down to 7. The weight sits in “North”, which carries 30 on its own and reduces to 3.
Seven is analyst & seeker — analysis, secrecy, and the search for truth. The reference files it as an open question. Read that way, what the entry is really recording is the 7's pull toward the hidden and the unresolved.
The vowels alone reduce to 9, the consonants to 7. Reckoning underneath, inquiry on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
The letters give 7; the subject's own figures do not agree. 総画 strokes is 20, a 2, volumes is 27, a 9, years serialised is 6 and debut year is 1983, a 3. Where the two part company the reference trusts the figures, because a title is a decision somebody made about the thing, and these are the thing.
The 7 mistakes withholding for depth. Some works filed here are obscure because they are unfinished, not because they are deep. What the 7 still asks is that you sit with the part that was never explained. The other entries that reduce to 7 are collected on The Inquiry.
