大今 良時
Born 1989
The creator of A Silent Voice and To Your Eternity, who writes about communication failure and refuses easy forgiveness. Filed under 7, the inquiry.
7The letters of this name total 70, a 7 — the number of analysis, secrecy, and the search for truth.
Yoshitoki Ōima's A Silent Voice began as a one-shot that Kodansha held back for two years over concerns about its depiction of disability and bullying. It ran as a series in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2013–14 across seven volumes. To Your Eternity, about an immortal shapeshifting entity learning what people are, followed in 2016 and continues.
Apology that does not settle anything. In A Silent Voice the bully seeks forgiveness partly to relieve his own guilt, and the girl he harmed blames herself for things that were not hers. Ōima refuses to arrange either character into a clean role, and refuses the structure where saying sorry ends the harm.
Visual metaphor executed with discipline. The X marks covering faces the protagonist cannot look at are the best-known example: a single simple idea, applied consistently, that replaces pages of interior monologue with a panel of a mark falling away.
Specificity about disability. Her mother worked as a sign language interpreter, and deafness in A Silent Voice is treated as a practical condition with mechanics — interpreters, lip-reading, notebooks, mistranslation — rather than as a metaphor for isolation.
Bystanders held responsible. The classmates who watched and the teacher who did nothing are drawn with the same weight as the leads. This is what keeps the book from being a two-hander about guilt.
Set against the Pythagorean table, the name totals 70. Reduced, that is 7. The weight sits in “Yoshitoki”, which carries 50 on its own and reduces to 5.
The reference files it as an open question. The number's contribution is analysis, secrecy, and the search for truth — and with it the 7's pull toward the hidden and the unresolved, which is the thread the reference follows here.
Beneath the 7 sit two smaller figures: 1 in the vowels, 6 in the consonants. Initiative underneath, responsibility on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
Counted another way the answer changes. 人格 core is 11, 総格 total is 24, a 6 and born is 1989, a 9. The title says 7; the subject says otherwise, and the subject is the harder evidence.
Read on the 7's terms, this entry asks you to sit with the part that was never explained. The 7 mistakes withholding for depth. Some works filed here are obscure because they are unfinished, not because they are deep. The other entries that reduce to 7 are collected on The Inquiry.
