Shūichi Shigeno
1The Opening · 82しげの 秀一
Born 1958
The creator of Initial D, whose precisely drawn cars and mountain races defined the street-racing manga.
1One — initiative. That is the reduction of this name, and the shelf it is read from.
Career
Shūichi Shigeno was born in 1958. His first major series, Bari Bari Densetsu (1983–1991), was about motorcycle racing, and it established his love of machines and speed.
The work
Initial D (1995–2013) in Weekly Young Magazine became his signature work. He followed it in 2017 with MF Ghost, set in the near future of the same world.
The style
Shigeno draws people simply and machines with exact realism, and he explains driving technique in detail. His races are built around skill and knowledge rather than horsepower, and his young heroes learn from older mentors.
Why he matters
His work made street racing a popular manga genre and had a real effect on car culture, raising interest in the cars his characters drive.
The name by its numbers
The arithmetic is unremarkable and worth doing anyway: 82 across 2 words, reducing to 1. The weight sits in “Shūichi”, which carries 41 on its own and reduces to 5.
One is leader & pioneer — beginnings, leadership, and the will to act alone. The reference files it as a first move. Read that way, what the entry is really recording is the 1's appetite for a clean, decisive beginning.
Heart's Desire 5, Personality 5: the subject wants exactly what it appears to want, which is change — an unusually undivided reading.
Counted another way the answer changes. 人格 core is 8, 総格 total is 15, a 6 and born is 1958, a 5. The title says 1; the subject says otherwise, and the subject is the harder evidence.
The 1 mistakes being first for being right. Several of these texts describe launches that mattered enormously for a year and then mattered to nobody. What the 1 still asks is that you notice what had to not exist for this to be possible. The other entries that reduce to 1 are collected on The Opening.
