Haruichi Furudate was born in 1983 in Iwate Prefecture and played volleyball as a middle-school student. He debuted with one-shots in Jump magazines and published a short-lived series, Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya Sensei no Kaidan, before Haikyu!! began in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2012.
