Sex Criminals: Cult Comic Adaptation Finally Shoots With Nia DaCosta

After over a decade in development, the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky's Eisner-winning comic, Sex Criminals, is finally in production. Prime Video's take on the cult hit is now in its third week of filming, confirmed by Executive Producer Tze Chun's recent social media update from set. Fans have waited years to see this unique premise come to life.
Imogen Poots stars as Suze, a woman whose extraordinary ability stops time when she has sex. She meets Jon, played by John Reynolds, who shares the same power. Their solution? Rob banks, of course. Kumail Nanjiani, also an executive producer, joins the cast as Dane, alongside Pamela Adlon, BD Wong, Ayden Mayeri, and Ashleigh Cummings in key roles. This stellar ensemble promises a memorable adaptation.
Filmmaker Nia DaCosta, lauded for her work on Hedda and upcoming "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," is helming the pilot and second episode. Sex Criminals, which debuted in 2013, quickly garnered critical acclaim, including a Best New Series Eisner Award. Its distinctive blend of explicit themes, sharp wit, and genuine heart made it a challenging but beloved comic to adapt. Seeing this long-gestating project finally materialize is a significant moment for comic book adaptations.

This project has been a rumor for so long, it's thrilling to see it actually happen. The blend of quirky humor and mature themes in the original comic is notoriously difficult to nail, so Nia DaCosta's involvement is a major plus. Fans should expect something genuinely unique, a real departure from typical superhero fare.
