Ron Perlman on The Capture: AI's Real-World Rise Is "Scary"

Ron Perlman, an industry titan with a legendary voice, finds the real-world rise of AI and deepfakes terrifying. The actor, beloved by animation fans as Clayface in Batman: The Animated Series and for countless other roles, stars in The Capture, a BBC/Peacock espionage thriller now in its third season.
Perlman credits showrunner Ben Chanan with uncanny foresight. When The Capture premiered in 2019, AI and deepfakes were not mainstream concerns. Yet, Chanan's narrative eerily predicted how surveillance technology would evolve, challenging law enforcement and global safety. Perlman admits watching these predictions unfold in reality has been "scary."
In the series, Perlman plays CIA Section Chief Frank Napier, a powerful and cynical figure. Perlman praises Chanan's deep affection for his characters, especially Napier, and enjoyed developing his arc through the final season. He also teases intense interrogation scenes in season three, introducing a new antagonist Perlman calls a "superhero when it came to being evil."
“AI wasn't even part of the discussion, so Ben Chanan was so far ahead of the curve.”
