Sugar Season 2 Goes Alien: New Cast & Koreatown Noir Shift

Sugar blew its own premise wide open in Season 1, revealing Colin Farrell's slick private eye John Sugar is, in fact, an extraterrestrial. Now, executive producers Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and Audrey Chon are ready to peel back the curtain on Season 2's radical shift. The Apple TV series is ditching Hollywood's glitz, plunging Sugar into the vibrant, unfamiliar terrain of L.A.'s Koreatown as he grapples with his alien identity among humans.
Catlin explained that Sugar's exposed secret fundamentally changes everything. "We knew his secret and why he was experiencing the world in a sort of unique way," he stated. This means Sugar must now "rebuild a support system," a challenge underscored by the ominous Season 1 warning: "The longer we stay here, the more we become like them." Season 2 promises a thematic expansion, moving from Beverly Hills' elite to an immigrant community for a "noir case where it started as something small and grew bigger."
This genre shift demanded a fresh ensemble. Tony Dalton, celebrated for his roles in Better Call Saul and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, was a specific target for Catlin, cast as Ray Vega. Chon detailed an "extensive search" for the Korean Moon Brothers, highlighting the challenge of finding specific ethnic actors. Laura Donnelly (Werewolf By Night) also joins, having impressed Catlin with her stage presence.
