Number Five Pitches Animated Umbrella Academy Return: "Automatic Yes"
Aidan Gallagher, known to fans as the time-traveling Number Five in Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, just dropped a bombshell: he's pitching an animated return for the Hargreeves siblings. And he's all in.
Gallagher sees animation as the key to unlocking the full potential of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's Dark Horse comic books. "As an animated show, it would free up the show," he shared recently. "You'd be able to do comic book stuff that we couldn't do in a live-action show. You could be more creative, I think." For him, it’s an "automatic yes."
The live-action adaptation certainly captivated audiences for several seasons. However, its recent final season and series finale proved polarizing, leaving some fans wondering if the live-action format truly captured the source material's bizarre charm. An animated format could bypass many of the budgetary and practical constraints that often limit live-action adaptations of such visually imaginative comics.
