Azzarello & Risso Reignite 100 Bullets: Lono Returns in Striking Black and White

Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso are back, reigniting their multi-Eisner Award-winning crime saga, 100 Bullets. Their new chapter, The US of Anger #1, blasts into stores July 1st, bringing fan-favorite antihero Lono back to America’s dark underbelly. For the first time in the main series, it’s presented in stunning black and white, a bold artistic choice.
This is huge news for fans of classic Vertigo. Azzarello and Risso defined an era of crime comics with their intricate, morally ambiguous tales of ordinary people given a gun and 100 untraceable bullets. Now, they're plunging back into that world with Lono, arguably its most compelling and brutal figure. His one-time protégé, Loop Hughes, also finds himself drawn back into the fray by tragedy, setting the stage for a bloody reunion.
After his desperate, years-long international odyssey and an attempt to save his soul in the previous spin-off, Brother Lono, our antihero is back in the United States. He’s on a relentless hunt, tearing through a dangerous network of corrupt elements: militias, megachurches, millionaires, and outright madmen. This time, the thematic stakes are higher: Lono will play Satan to a host of demons tempting America itself to sell its soul. It’s a sharp commentary on the current state of affairs.
“In The US of Anger, Lono will play Satan to a host of demons tempting the United States to sell hers.”

This is huge news for fans of classic Vertigo. Azzarello and Risso defined an era of crime comics, and seeing them revisit 100 Bullets, especially with a character as compelling as Lono, is something to anticipate. The shift to black and white for this chapter is a bold artistic choice that could redefine the series' visual impact.
