Stargate Reboot Canceled: Amazon Cites
Stargate Reboot Canceled: Amazon Cites
Amazon Prime Video just pulled the plug on the new Stargate series. Their reasoning? It "would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's dedicated fanbase." That's a gut punch for long-suffering fans and a perplexing move for a streamer in an era obsessed with IP revivals.
Stargate has been largely dormant since Stargate Universe ended in 2011. Fans waited over a decade for a proper return to the franchise's rich universe. Developer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the cancellation, revealing that creator Martin Gero had crafted a series designed to honor existing canon while inviting new viewers. It aimed to recapture Stargate's core: action, adventure, exploration, wonder, and found family. This vision, Mallozzi said, had been greenlit and was set to introduce new characters and revisit familiar faces. Now, it's all gone.
Mallozzi expressed heartbreak for the talented writers, Gero, and the patient fandom. Fellow developer Brad Wright wished the world could have seen their work. Michael Shanks, who played Daniel Jackson in Stargate SG-1, urged fans to speak up now, warning this could be "the end of that chapter forever" for creator-involved Stargate. Atlantis stars Rachel Luttrell and David Hewlett also weighed in, with Hewlett sarcastically questioning Amazon's "broad appeal" comment.

The news ignited fan fury, with a Change.org petition quickly gaining traction. This decision is a tough pill to swallow, especially when other streamers are mining nostalgia for all it's worth. Amazon's dismissal of a "dedicated fanbase" feels particularly tone-deaf.
