Ryan North Unleashes Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Twist in The Flash #34

Ryan North, the writer famed for his wildly popular Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books, brings his signature interactive style to DC Comics in The Flash #34, released today. Artist Gavin Guidry joins him in this unique branching narrative, letting readers guide Wally West's latest adventure.
North's reputation for 'chooseable-path' narratives precedes him. His Kickstarter-funded To Be Or Not To Be (2013) reimagined Hamlet with dozens of wild endings. He followed up with Romeo And/Or Juliet, a New York Times bestseller, before tackling William Shakespeare Punches a Friggin' Shark. He even brought this concept to comics before with IDW's Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Now, North brings that signature style to DC. The timing is perfect: Wally West's new superpower lets him see the future with increasing accuracy. North uses this to put readers directly in Wally's shoes. In The Flash #34, a test from Mr. Terrific lands Wally in a worrying future: Central City swarming with a Gorilla Army! Readers choose Wally's next move in enemy territory. It's a brilliant narrative play, tapping directly into the Scarlet Speedster's evolving powers. This issue is a must-read.
“The Flash #34 marks Ryan North's first Choose-Your-Own-Adventure comic for DC, letting readers guide Wally West's future visions.”

This is a fascinating way to integrate meta-storytelling into a superhero comic. North's track record with interactive narratives is stellar, so seeing him apply it to The Flash's future-seeing abilities is brilliant. Fans should expect some unexpected detours.
