Adult Swim is dropping the highly anticipated spinoff, President Curtis, on July 26, and executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano confirm a massive character retcon. President Andre Curtis, voiced by the legendary Keith David, isn't the approval-seeking politician we remember from Rick Sanchez's chaotic escapades.

Instead, the series reintroduces him as a begrudging leader, a "soldier and a vampire slayer" who took the Oval Office out of pure duty, not ambition. Harmon and Siciliano explained that this President Curtis wouldn't lie or cheat for numbers; he's a true public servant, a far cry from his previous portrayal. This shift paints a much deeper, more principled character, setting a unique tone for the show.

Harmon emphasized that Curtis was the perfect choice for a standalone series because his world creates a "concentric circle" to Rick's universe. This approach allows for similar tonal exploration without simply rehashing old ground – think X-Files meets Doctor Who, but with that signature Rick and Morty edge.
