NYT Bestseller Dreadful Universe Expands with New Comic and Sequel Novel

Fans of Caitlin Rozakis' New York Times Bestselling novel Dreadful, get ready! The sharp-witted high fantasy farce is officially expanding with a new comic and a sequel novel. Titan Comics will publish "Crashed: A Dreadful Comic," while Titan Books releases the highly anticipated follow-up novel, "Half-Baked."

"Dreadful," a 2024 breakout hit, introduced readers to Dread Lord Gavrax. This evil wizard wakes up with amnesia in his ruined workshop, only to realize he's the terrifying overlord everyone fears. He must fake being evil amidst goblins, a trapped princess, and killer moat squid. The novel won over fans with its cozy, satirical take on high fantasy.

The upcoming comic, "Crashed," marks Rebecca Rozakis' graphic novel debut. She teased a dive into a "goblin B&B in all its ramshackle, wacky splendour," a tantalizing hint at the comic's unique flavor. Meanwhile, "Half-Baked," the sequel novel, lands next May. It promises an unlikely team-up: a goatherd with unwanted magical destiny and a necromancer's heir dreaming of opening a bakery. Familiar characters Orla and Valevna will return alongside new faces.

Crashed: A Dreadful Comic will debut from Titan Comics, promising a dive into the series' wild "goblin B&B"!

This is a significant moment for the "Dreadful" universe. Its rapid expansion from a bestselling debut novel into a multi-format franchise shows strong momentum, and Rozakis herself expressed excitement to revisit the world and make her comic debut.

Catzye Take

This rapid expansion of the Dreadful universe is fantastic news for fans of witty, cozy fantasy. It also highlights a growing trend of successful novels finding new life in comics, offering fresh perspectives on beloved worlds. We're eager to see how Rozakis' unique voice translates to the graphic novel format.
