NFL Star Marshawn Lynch Headlines AWA's September 2026 Solicits

NFL star Marshawn Lynch is smashing into the comic world! AWA Studios just dropped their September 2026 solicits, and the headline act is Beast Mode 510, a new graphic novel starring none other than the legendary former NFL running back. This isn't just a celebrity cameo; Lynch is the central character in a 21st-century Blaxploitation-inspired action-comedy set in Oakland.
Sheldon Allen writes Beast Mode 510, based on a story by AWA EIC Axel Alonso. Veteran artist Denys Cowan handles the pencils. The story introduces Beastmode, Oakland's gruff-but-gold-hearted fixer. He usually tackles local problems. But a surprise birthday party for his mom pulls him into a sprawling global conspiracy. Think missing women, Silicon Valley rings, Yakuza assassins, and even reptilian billionaires. It's a wild ride.
AWA isn't stopping there. The Rising, a new one-shot, also joins the lineup. This one comes from Greg Widen, the iconic creator behind Highlander. Laci provides the art for this sci-fi thriller. The story plunges us into a dying missile-base town. A mysterious accident from forty years ago left six people in comas. Now, as the base closes, those patients stir. Strange glitches and ominous discoveries point to an evil lurking deep within. The fate of the planet hangs in the balance.

Catzye Take
AWA Studios is clearly leaning into high-concept celebrity-driven projects, a trend worth watching in the indie comics space. Fans of genre-bending action and sci-fi with a twist should definitely keep an eye on these releases. It’s always interesting to see creators from other mediums bring their unique perspectives to comics.
