Marvel's Sorcerer Supremes Face Early Exit as 'Ten-Issue Curse' Strikes

Marvel's September 2026 solicits hint at a grim fate for two major magic-wielders. Both Doctor Strange and Sorcerer Supreme, starring Scarlet Witch, appear destined for an early exit after only 10 issues each. This ignominious end fuels speculation about Marvel's infamous 'ten-issue curse' and its opaque cancellation practices.
Doctor Strange, written by Derek Landy and drawn by Ivan Fiorelli, sees Stephen Strange navigating his new role as Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard. Meanwhile, Steve Orlando and Bernard Chang's Sorcerer Supreme follows Wanda Maximoff as the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, clashing with Agatha Harkness and Maddie Pryor. Both titles launched with the promise of 'Volume 1,' traditionally signaling ongoing narratives.
However, recent changes to collected edition listings tell a different story. Initially, these paperback collections were expected to gather 5-6 issues. Now, they're listed to collect 10, encompassing the entire run from issue #1-10. Crucially, online retailers like Amazon and Penguin Random House have scrubbed the exact issue counts from their updated listings. This opaque move suggests Marvel wants to downplay the fact that these 'Volume 1' books will likely collect all the issues these series will ever get.
“It's a frustrating pattern for fans who invest in new runs, only to see them unceremoniously dropped without official announcement.”
Catzye Take
This ongoing trend of quiet cancellations is a disservice to creators and readers alike. Fans deserve transparency when they invest in a new series. We'll be watching to see if Marvel offers any official statement or if this becomes another 'blink and you'll miss it' ending.
