Long Wait Ahead: Cheat Fuyo Anime Reveals Stellar Cast and Staff for Fall 2026

The anime adaptation of Asa Rokushima's epically long-titled "Tsuihou sareta Cheat Fuyo Majutsushi wa Kimama na Second Life wo Ouka suru." — or "Cheat Fuyo" for those of us who prefer brevity — just dropped a major reveal: main staff, cast, and a teaser promo are out! But prepare for a wait though: fans will have to wait until Fall 2026 to see Reiji's overpowered second life unfold. That's a surprisingly distant release date, giving us plenty of time to re-read the source material.
Studio ENGI, known for its work on Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! and The Detective Is Already Dead., takes the helm. Directing this banished hero tale is Yasutaka Yamamoto, who previously helmed Am I Actually the Strongest?, making him a strong choice for this kind of fantasy tale. Deko Akao (series composer for the acclaimed My Happy Marriage) handles series composition, while Hiromi Katou (Kuroko's Basketball) designs the characters, promising a distinct visual style. Tatsuhiko Saiki (My Next Life as a Villainess) will compose the music.
The voice cast is equally impressive. Kengo Kawanishi, famed as Dr. Stone's Gen Asagiri and Demon Slayer's Muichiro Tokito, voices the lead, Reiji. He's joined by Megumi Han (Hunter x Hunter's Gon Freecss) as Rose, Azumi Waki (The Detective Is Already Dead.'s Nagisa Natsunagi) as Luna, and Miyu Tomita (Kaguya-sama: Love is War's Miko Iino) as Sylphia. This lineup alone is a huge draw for the series.

More Stories
For those unfamiliar, "Cheat Fuyo" — based on Asa Rokushima's popular light novel and Akane Ikeno's manga adaptation — follows Reiji, a mage banished from his hero's party. He soon discovers his "useless" enhancement magic is actually incredibly overpowered. Cue a comfy second life for Reiji while his former party flounders. It's a classic "banished hero becomes ridiculously powerful" fantasy setup that continues to resonate with audiences, and the newly released teaser offers a first tantalizing glimpse.
Catzye Take
This could be a big hit for Studio ENGI, tapping into the ever-popular 'banished hero' trope. What's interesting is the long lead time to Fall 2026 — hopefully, that means plenty of production polish! Fans should definitely check out the light novel or manga while they wait.
