IDW Unleashes New Smile and A Quiet Place Comics in 2026

Mark your calendars, horror hounds! IDW Publishing is diving deep into two modern horror phenomena, announcing new comic series for Paramount Pictures' Smile and A Quiet Place, both slated for 2026. This isn't just a rehash; both titles promise fresh takes on their respective terrifying worlds.
First up, September 2026 brings Smile: Any Given Smile, a five-issue series. Eisner-nominated writer Stephanie Williams (known for her work on Nubia) and GLAAD-winning artist Pablo Collar lead the charge. The story takes us to 1995, where an American Arena League football championship becomes ground zero for terror. A backup quarterback, buried in gambling debt, finds his world unraveling amidst a string of suicides and the insidious Smile Entity. No one can trust anything or anyone as the entity's horrifying visions threaten sanity and lives. It's a clever prequel setup, blending sports drama with supernatural dread.
Then in November, prepare for A Quiet Place: Rising Tides, another five-issue thriller. Writer Declan Shalvey and artist Luke Sparrow plunge us into a familiar yet terrifying new scenario. Grace, seeking her estranged father in the Florida Keys, finds the world has ended instead. Now, she and her sick, aging father are stranded on a houseboat, clinging to life on the open water—the only refuge from the creatures that hunt by sound. But dwindling oxygen, disappearing supplies, and adapting predators amplify the tension. And if that wasn't enough, a hurricane looms on the horizon. It's a claustrophobic survival story set against the iconic silent horror of the films.
“No one can trust anything or anyone as a mind-bending Smile Entity threatens their sanity and lives.”

This move shows IDW is keen to expand on popular film IPs, offering new narrative avenues for fans. What's interesting is how both series choose prequel or tangential stories, rather than direct film adaptations. Fans should keep an eye on how these expand the lore without relying on jump scares, a challenge unique to comics.
