Fugitive Doctor Unleashed: Jo Martin Hints at New Depths in Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker

Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker is officially underway, and it's not just another adventure — it’s a deep dive into one of the franchise's most enigmatic characters. Jo Martin’s mysterious Fugitive Doctor takes center stage in this massive multimedia crossover, promising to reveal layers previously unseen.
The story plunges the Doctor into a desperate mission. Reality itself faces collapse, threatened by familiar foes like the Daleks, Cybermen, and Sontarans, plus a rogue Weeping Angel, and an insidious hidden "big bad." UNIT’s newly appointed Black Archive head, Petronella Osgood, and her assistant Andrew, call on the Doctor for help. But this isn't the Time Lord Osgood knows. The early narrative already hints at trust eroding between UNIT and the Fugitive Doctor, setting a tense stage.
Martin herself couldn't be more thrilled about fleshing out her character. She revealed this expanded universe finally allows the Fugitive Doctor room to breathe, moving beyond the "hard line, no nonsense" portrayal seen on TV. "She's not one-dimensional," Martin noted, excited to explore her character's vulnerable side, regrets, and the ways she uses sarcasm and humor as a shield. This opportunity to lean into her backstory is "just incredible."
“This massive, multi-platform narrative allows her character room to breathe, exploring vulnerability and regret rarely seen on screen.”
Catzye Take
This expanded universe approach for the Fugitive Doctor is exactly what fans have been clamoring for. It's exciting to see a character with so much untapped potential finally get a chance to shine beyond TV limits. We'll be watching closely to see how these new layers impact the wider Doctor Who lore.
