First-Time Director Kevin Kraft Earns Raves for Collaborative Stoner Comedy

When seasoned actors praise a first-time director, it's worth noting. Stars Ilana Kohanchi and Dustin Ybarra did exactly that for Kevin Kraft, the visionary behind the new stoner comedy "The Second Coming of John Cooper." They described a set where creative freedom wasn't just encouraged, it was the bedrock.
The film itself is a mockumentary following John Cooper (Lane Compton), a once-massive Hollywood star who partied his career away. A documentary crew finds him years later, living on his biggest fan's couch, documenting his moronic attempts at a comeback. It’s pure chaotic fun.
Kohanchi and Ybarra, both familiar faces from a slew of TV and film roles, dove deep into their characters. Kohanchi plays Jess Morgan, the exasperated straight-woman to the antics. Ybarra takes on Dubs, a stoner so authentically written the character was initially named "Dusty" – a nod to Ybarra's own name. He admitted Kraft, a long-time friend, specifically crafted the role for him.
“Kevin's a fantastic director because he has a very good sense of making a project collaborative.”
Catzye Take
This sounds like a dream set for any actor, especially in a genre that thrives on spontaneity. What's interesting is how a director's debut can sometimes cut through the usual Hollywood red tape, fostering a truly creative environment. Fans should watch for how this freedom translates into genuine comedic performances.
