Elvira's Candid Memoir Becomes Graphic Novel — With a 2026 Release Date

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, made massive waves when her 2021 memoir, "Yours Cruelly: Becoming Elvira," revealed her attraction to women and other personal secrets. Now, that candid life story is getting a graphic novel adaptation, set to hit shelves in an unexpectedly distant 2026.
Dynamite Entertainment will publish "Yours Cruelly: Becoming Elvira," the graphic novel. Cassandra Peterson, the woman behind the iconic horror hostess, teams up with longtime Elvira comic writer David Avallone and artist Mariano Benitez-Chapo for the project. This hardcover adaptation promises to bring visuals to Peterson’s struggles with self-image, relationships, and career, offering an indispensable look behind the scenes of a horror and entertainment legend.
Elvira, known for her campy gothic look and witty commentary, became a cultural touchstone hosting B-movie horror. Peterson created the persona in the early 80s, rising to national fame with "Elvira's Movie Macabre" and her cult-classic films. This graphic novel extends Dynamite's run of Elvira comics, but with a unique biographical focus. Fans will have a long wait for the September 16, 2026 release, but it promises to be worth it for this visual deep dive into a groundbreaking life.
“Her memoir made massive waves, revealing her attraction to women and other life secrets.”
Catzye Take
This is a big deal for Elvira fans, who now get to see Cassandra Peterson's groundbreaking memoir visualized. The long wait until 2026 is a definite drawback, but it offers plenty of time to revisit Elvira's films and existing comics. It's also interesting to see Dynamite continue to invest in biographical graphic novels for pop culture icons.
