Capcom Drops Wild Dragon's Dogma 2 Expansion Date, Surprise Demo for Onimusha

Capcom's latest Spotlight pulled some wild moves, with Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen getting a surprise 2026 release date for its expansion. Even stranger: pre-ordering the upcoming DLC will grant immediate access to the base game. It's a bold play for an expansion priced like a full title at $49.99, or $29.99 as a standalone add-on.
Director Kento Kinoshita confirmed the Dark Arisen expansion brings a brand-new story set in the frigid Norgan region, 12 challenge dungeons, and fresh customization options. But before 2026, Arisen can expect a vital update in late August. This patch promises improved performance across all platforms, adds more save slots, adjusts the much-debated Dragonsplague condition, and increases weapon skill slots to six. Finally, a proper update for a much-loved, if sometimes janky, RPG.
Meanwhile, Onimusha: Way of the Sword slashes its way into players' hands with a demo available right now. Director Satoru Nihei showcased the terrifying new winged Genma foe, Dohatsu-ten. Fans will duel this bloodthirsty demon when the full sword-action game launches this September.
“Pre-ordering the Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expansion, launching in 2026, will grant immediate access to the base game.”
Catzye Take
Capcom's strategy here is interesting: immediate gratification with the Onimusha demo and DD2 patch, while building long-term hype for the Dragon's Dogma 2 expansion. What's curious is the base game access through an expansion pre-order. That's a new one for us.
